Here’s a Heinkel He 115, used as a torpedo bomber during WW2 by the Luftwaffe and the Norwegian Air Force (against the former), the Swedish Air Force (against no one, because neutral) and Finland (against the Soviet Union with German co operation).
In 2012 one was fished out of a fjord in Norway. It’s in amazingly good condition for a plane that’s been in the sea for seventy years.

The Germans certainly had a thing for the long, skinny greenhouse canopy. I love those ‘30s aircraft designs, especially when they started adopting the monowing, all-metal fuselages. Such classic lines.

Them and the Japanese.
Actually, it seems to be a torpedo-bomber thing.

It did. It was also a general ‘3os design ethos. Most of these planes had a three-man crew, so the long greenhouse was sort of a necessity. But there is a certain look to all the German designs of this era, one that is somehow uniquely Teutonic. Even without the markings, that plane would be instantly recognizable as a German design.

I rather think the German-ness is due to the straight, contiguous lines combining with their typical “fuselage must be as thin as possible” ethos.
But more so the straight lines and angles. Later German planes started getting rounded and swoopy, but ‘30s and early war-time were all about dem squirctangles.

It supposedly fostered crew camaraderie, ie, when they were getting shot down they could yell to each other “Damn it! Were Fucked!”.

The BF 110 and Stuka had one too.

I’m terrible with it in War Thunder. I can do magic tricks with the Do.217, Bf.109, and M.C. 202, but don’t put me in the Bf.110 if you want any sort of utility.
